Bennett Lee Koppenhaver

Bennett Lee Koppenhaver, 85, of Bethlehem, died Feb. 18, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospice. He was the husband of Madeline (Gricoskie) Koppenhaver for 63 years.

Born in Reinerton, he was a son of the late Karl and Beulah (Nolan) Koppenhaver.

He attended Porter Township High School, Reinerton, and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, Lancaster.

He started working for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies in 1957. He was a tool maker for six years. He was promoted into a research and development engineering group, then to first level management. He was a manufacturing facilities maintenance supervisor upon retirement in 1998.

He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for nine years where he served as a past president and in all the chairs. He was a 10-year past president and a 25-year member of the Catasauqua Area School Board. He was a 23-year representative and a one-year president of the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit. He was a member of the zoning hearing board for Hanover Township, Lehigh County, for 12 years, and was on the zoning hearing board of East Allen Township.

He was a member of Porter Lodge 284 and of the Porter Club, Catasauqua; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Masons, Lehigh Valley Consistory, Allentown; and the Rajah Temple Shrine, Reading. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Travelers Protection Association, the Masonic Square Club within Lucent Technologies, the Catasauqua Exchange Club and the Catasauqua Band Parents group.

He was a member of Rosemont Lutheran Church, Bethlehem.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four granddaughters, Laura Hafner of Northampton and Christine Deily, Meredith Deily Perryman and Stephanie Deily of Wilmington, N.C.; and two sons-in-law, Robert Hafner of Catasauqua and Gary Deily of Wilmington, N.C.

He was predeceased by two daughters, Brenda Koppenhaver Hafner and Barbara Koppenhaver Deily; and two sisters, Monna Clauser of Lebanon and Jean Conners of Fort Meyers, Fla.
