LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Saengerbund hosts valentine dance

Members of the heritage committee at Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., were delighted at the full turnout for the valentine dance they sponsored Feb. 20. The heritage committee asked patrons to share their love with family, friends and their significant other at the event - and they sure did.

The Joe Kroboth Band entertained with its popular polka music that had the dance floor full and patrons dancing and singing along to the songs played. The patron enjoyment was clear and evident as they enthusiastically circled around the dance floor.

The valentine dance king and queen were Tom Resetco, of Northampton, and Joan Schramel, of Bath, respectively, Schramel said she hoped to win and was overjoyed to be selected. Resetco added he was happily surprised with the designation.

Shelly Wydock, who always wears a beautiful smile, was the ticket taker and sign-in person at Coplay Saengerbund’s entrance door. She said she was impressed with the turnout for the dance. Wydock usually staffs the entrance either indoors or outdoors in the Saengerbund’s beautiful grove.

Heritage committee members Emil Schanta, Marge Schanta, Frank and Mary Ellen Luizer, Hope and Gary Stroble and Matt and Mike Grislier, to name several, are also planning a Mardi Gras “Lumpenball” (Bum’s Ball) for 3-6 p.m. Feb. 27.

The committee wants patrons to join the festivities and merrymaking of Fasching (also known as Mardi Gras or Karnival). The Lumpenball asks patrons to wear old, patched clothing, frayed hats, torn shirts, etc. Men do not need to shave, and women do not need to worry about their hairstyles. Scruffy is good for this celebration. The idea is to come dressed down.

Prizes will be awarded to those who wear dressed-down attire. Join the parade of fun and laughter before the Lenten season begins.

Committee members also have a pre-St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the works for 3-6 p.m. March 13 in the social hall. Music will be provided by John & Marie. There will be a special guest appearance 4 p.m. by traditional Irish dancers from the O’Grady Quinlan Academy of Irish Dance.

Call 610-262-9937 for information on either event.

These indoor late-winter and early-spring events at the Saengerbund are like the early crocuses that bloom first and will lead to a full array of several busy weekend outdoor celebrations in the grove during the summer and fall seasons.
