Richard R. Wieder

Richard “Porky” R. Wieder, 86, a lifelong resident of Emmaus, died Jan. 30, 2022, in his home, surrounded by family, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of the late Martha A. (Hopstock) Wieder. He was a son of the late Randolph Wieder and Catherine (Ortt) Wieder.

He graduated from Emmaus High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines, stationed in Korea.

He was employed for several years as a surveyor for the Martin Schuler Co. and concluded his working life with over 20 years at the Schaefer/Stroh Brewery in Fogelsville from where he retired.

He was a member of the Emmaus Moravian Church.

He was involved in the Emmaus VFW, the Owls Home of Emmaus and the West End Cubs Youth Association of Emmaus.

He had the honor of ceremoniously “flipping the switch” the first time after lights were installed at the Emmaus Legion Baseball field at Emmaus Community Park.

He derived much satisfaction providing for his family. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones and friends, coaching and instructing his children in sports and life, was known for a hearty appetite, was quick with a joke, liked watching the Phillies and Eagles and classic movies.

He was an American Civil War and World War II history buff and enjoyed regularly having breakfast with former co-workers.

Hammel (John); grandchildren, Eric Fritz, Jessica Wagner (Jimmy), Andrew, Christine; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Declan, and Ryan Wagner; nephews, Michael, Robert and Stephen Heck; a niece, Gail Smith; companion, Betty Hartman and longtime friend since fifth grade, Donald Feather. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Leigh Fritz and a sister, Loretta Thompson.
