Payment approved for Western Salisbury fire engine repair

The payment for repairs to Engine No. 31-11 have been approved.
The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously 5-0 to approve $38,346.30 to get Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department’s 2007 fire engine back in action.
Salisbury Township Commissioner Alok Patnaik made the motion, seconded by commissioner Vice President Rodney Conn, at the Feb. 10 township meeting to approve the payment.
The Western fire engine was out of service since October 2021.
In other business at the Feb. 10 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:
•Resolution to adopt 2022 township fees schedule
•Resolution to update nonuniformed defined contribution pension plan committee membership
•Motion to award bid for water main replacement projects (Contract A) and sanitary sewer repair project (Contract B) for $571,000 to Michael F. Ronca & Sons Contracting, Inc., Bethlehem.
“We have worked with them over the years. They are well-qualified,” Salisbury Township Consulting Engineer David J. Tettemer of Keystone Consulting Engineers, Inc., said before the vote.
•Motion to approve the 2020 audited financial report
At the Jan. 27 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:
•Ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance, Chapter 27, Part 3, for zoning districts. Commissioners voted 5-0 to table Part 6 for off-street parking and loading.
•Resolution to authorize township participation in opioid settlement
•Motion to approve Salisbury Township deputy tax collector
At the Jan. 13 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:
•Motion to refund 2020 township real estate taxes paid by Nicholas Park Mall LLC because of a court-approved tax assessment appeal.
“We’re losing $17,000 in tax revenue,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said before the vote.
The tax refund is for the South Mall, 3300 Lehigh St., which was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to Salisbury Township Director of Finance Paul Ziegenfus.
“I’d hate to lose the mall,” board of commissioners President Debra Brinton said before the vote.
•Motion to ratify the nonuniformed defined contribution pension plan funding amount for year-end 2021. The funding amount is $34,515.46, it was said.
•Motion to accept the resignation of Jane Benning from the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council
•Motion to accept the resignation of Paul Carr from the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council
•Motion to accept the resignation of Kimberly Ringhoffer from the Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee
•Motion to appoint a civil service commission alternate member
The Salisbury Township Planning Commission meeting was canceled for 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners meets 7 p.m. Feb. 24, in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
