Louise C. Schick, BSN RN

Louise C. Schick, 85, of Lower Macungie, peacefully died Jan. 5, 2022. She was the wife of the late James E. Schick Sr., with whom she enjoyed 61 years of marriage. She was the youngest child of Daniel and Harriett (Bachman) Fritch.

She grew up in Allentown and was a graduate of Allentown High School where she excelled in academics and athletics. She earned an RN degree from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1957) and a BSN from Kutztown State Teachers’ College. She was an instructor of nursing at the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing until she started a family.

While raising her children, she worked in private practice for Dr. Sam Criswell before becoming a school nurse for the Bethlehem Area School District.

She was an active and longtime member of Salem UCC, serving on the Elder Board and organizing many food drives. Most recently she attended Bethany UM Church and participated in Bible studies and SIA at Faith Evangelical Free Church.

“Weezie” to her dear friends, was a witty “sage-of-all trades,” her gifts and talents were countless, from poetry, letter writing and blessing others with her signature photo cards to renovating houses and designing her “parks.” Quilting, sewing, and crocheting; playing bridge and parlor games; hosting celebrations; making cookies and applesauce; arranging marathon luncheons and traveling with her beloved crossword puzzles propelled this servant-leader. Her compassionate spirit knew no bounds when she oversaw the process of aging relatives for several decades while playing “Dr. Mom” to all her children.

She is survived by a daughter, Jamie L. Gilly (John); sons, James E. Jr. (Kathy); John A. (Shannon); a brother, Bruce Fritch (Connie); a sister, Barbara Ann Moyer; grandchildren, Whitney and Andrew Roth, Victoria, Gray, Joshua, Grace and Esther; sisters-in-law, Margaret Patrick (Ray) and Helen Hayes (Tim). She was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Paul Moyer, Steven, Edward and Robert Zahoransky.

Contributions may be made to Phoebe Ministries, Allentown.

Services will be held at the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, April 23, 2022. Visiting hours will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and immediately followed by services.
