Emmaus launches new career and mental health resources for students

After multiple reschedules, the Foreign Cultures Club will hold its Winter Holiday Festival 2-3:30 p.m. Feb. 25.

Tables for Eid-al-Fitr, Eid-al-Adha, Diwali, Orthodox Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Three Wise Men and Lunar New Year will be available, offering snacks and activities related to each holiday. To volunteer for this event, check your school email for communications with your group leader.

Ms. Bonney from the counseling offices will hold a six-week wellness program offered to all Emmaus High School students. Sessions will run every Monday 9-9:45 a.m. Feb. 28 to April 4. Students will miss the first half of block 2 on these days. The program will focus on skills such as confidence building, coping with anxiety and maintaining healthy relationships. Use the Google form in your “Class of” Schoology page to register.

The Interact Club needs volunteers for the Emmaus SnowBlast Festival March 5 at the Emmaus Triangle. Volunteers will aid children in coloring and craft activities – dress warmly.

Donations of coloring supplies and an outdoor canopy are also needed. Sign up using the “Interact Volunteer Events” document in Schoology. Contact akaunitz@eastpennsd.org (Interact Club adviser) or karri.emmausarts@gmail.com (event coordinator) with questions.

In addition, Interact Club members should fill out the “Reading helpers at Willow Lane” document if interested in reading to children at Willow Lane Elementary School. The document can be found through Schoology messages with Mrs. Kaunitz.

The East Penn School District and Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania have collaborated to present the 2022 Mental Health Symposium. Now through March 6, parents may view asynchronous, virtual and live presentations to learn coping strategies for child mental health. Parents may also find valuable community resources by educators, psychologists and counselors. Visit https://sites.google.com/eastpennsd.org/virtuamentalhealthsymposim2021/ for information and presentations.

The Young Democrats Club will take a trip to Philadelphia March 8 for the International Women’s Day March. Visit Room 533 for the information packet and permission slips. Due to limited space, return signed paperwork to Room 533 as soon as possible.

Shave for the Brave will take place 5 p.m. March 11 in the Emmaus High School stadium. Join the event to support those shaving their heads and to help the Pediatric Cancer Club reach its donation goal of $100,000.

Collage, EHS’s art and literary magazine, has added a drop-box to the library lobby for student submissions. Submissions may include original art or writing and will have the chance to be featured in the 2021-2022 Collage issue.

In honor of career month, the counseling offices will provide a career speaker for each day of March. Presentations vary from nursing to pharmaceuticals to engineering. Find the speaker schedule in your school email and sign up to attend in Naviance. Students are responsible for making up missed classwork or communicating with teachers in the event a presentation runs during the school day.
