CWSA looking to replace grinder at pump station

During Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority’s Feb. 17 meeting, Matt Harleman, general manager, reported the failure of a grinder at the Eberhart pump station. The cause of the failure is unknown.

The backup unit is in place, but it is important the unit be replaced. The approximate cost is $30,000. The unit is from a specific manufacturer and should be in stock. CWSA is awaiting the quote. However, the board is considering this an emergency situation.

Harleman also reported the loan with Concord Public Finance and Embassy Bank closed Feb. 16. The loan is to settle its Lehigh County Authority debt of $759,000. Refinancing this loan at the much lower rate of 0.88 percent will give CWSA substantial long-term savings of more than $500,000.

In other news, Harleman mentioned a quote was received for meter upgrades to the Quarry and Ormrod stations in the amount of $11,500 each. This will give CWSA full remote reading capabilities, like it has at two other stations. A motion was approved.

Chairman James Hahn communicated the receipt of a letter from UGI in reference to a gas line replacement in the easement off Parkway Avenue.

Jim Roth, assistant secretary, brought up the need for the CWSA main building and garage roof to be repaired or replaced. A motion was made and approved to contact T&M Associates for requirements and pricing.
