In a story printed in last week’s edition, Whitehall Township Mayor Michael Harakal Jr. spoke of the newly hired public works director, noting his experience in several key areas.
Harakal said of the new employee, “He’s running crews of 50 people who are laying down macadam and improving roads, so he has great experience with two of the biggest problems we have - getting roads built and getting the snow cleaned up.”
He believes he was misquoted by The Press, which stated he said building roads and clearing snow are areas in which the township “needs improvement.” Harakal requested a clarification that he said roadwork and snow cleanup are the “biggest problems the township has” - meaning the two jobs the public works crew does most.
In a Feb. 21 statement to The Press, Harakal said, “Whitehall Township public works employees, current and former, took it as if they do not do a good job. They do a great job and perform at an extremely professional level, whether it is during the hottest days while paving or during the coldest and most dangerous nights while plowing snow. They take a challenging job and don’t stop working until the job is done.”
