Catty Scout plans Eagle project

Editor’s note: A previously printed version of this story included errors. A revised story, in its entirety, appears below.

Timothy Cline, a Catasauqua High School junior, is taking steps toward attaining the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 94.

The plan, as Cline has it set up, is to have several food drive locations in Catasauqua and North Catasauqua boroughs to benefit Catasauqua Community Food Bank. The drives are set for 9 a.m.-noon March 26 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St.; North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.; and Fireman’s Field, Race and Second streets, Catasauqua.

Cline is calling on Catasauqua and North Catasauqua residents to help him collect his goal of 5,000 items for the food bank.

“This is something that is for the entire area. We want all the boroughs and townships to support us,” Cline added.

Jillian Emert, a volunteer at the food bank and a member of Catasauqua Area School District Board of Education, is helping coordinate the effort.

There will be groups of volunteers at all three collection locations during the donation window. Volunteers are needed to help with the efforts.

According to Mary Spieker, director of religious education at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, 2,000 fliers will be distributed throughout both boroughs to spread awareness March 19, and volunteers are requested. Volunteers can meet around 9 a.m. at the Catasauqua playground pavilion on St. John Street to receive more information.

Cline recently assisted with a Jan. 30 breakfast, which included eggs, sausage, pancakes, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and more, put on by the troop at American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., Catasauqua. Funds from this breakfast went to support the troop’s activities.

Cline is relying on donations from family, friends and the community to achieve his goals.
