Lynn Township supervisors on Feb. 10 said they would obtain an assessment on the former recycling transfer station at 6450 Scholler Road, New Tripoli.

Supervisor Steve I. Feinour said the recycling center had not been meeting its own expenses.

Township Solicitor Marc Fisher advised supervisors the land will need to be sold at a public auction versus a private sale.

In other matters, Melanie Walsh of Frey & Co., a public accounting firm, gave supervisors a report on the 2021 audit.

She said the audit “went smoothly” and Lynn Township finances “never went into the red.”

New Tripoli Fire Chief Gary Kunitz Jr. reported on the status of the fire company’s fundraiser.

He said they are selling May calendar tickets for $30 each and the tickets are available at local business, from fire team members or online.

Prizes include two Polaris UTVs, a Polaris Sportsman 450 ATV, a John Deere Zero-Turn mower, and as a ticket seller’s prize, a Polaris Sportsman 450 ATV.

He reported the Erie Insurance Co., gave the fire company a grant for $1,500 and Walmart gave the fire company a $500 donation.

“We received a separate grant for $35,000 to put toward a 2022 Kenworth-Pierce tanker,” he told the board.

Kuntz also said the fire company received grants that will allow them to buy two swift water rescue suits.

They also plan to buy 500 feet of 5-inch hose for the new tanker at a cost of $800 per 100 feet.

In addition, he said the fire company is working with Northwestern Lehigh School District on an agreement to allow the district to use a fire company building as an emergency shelter.
