One Saturday morning, we were assigning household jobs to be taken care of. I told Ben he was in charge of vacuuming. He replied, “But Dad loves to vacuum (which, by the way, is absolutely true). I couldn’t deny him the privilege.” I said, “You need the practice.” (In my defense, Ben’s approach is to randomly run the vacuum around leaving swaths of dog hair behind.) Ben said, “It’s vacuuming. You go back and forth. What is there to practice? Do I need a mentor?” Matt ended up vacuuming.
The next township column will be published March 16; copy deadline is March 10.
