Coplay: Saengerbund has upcoming activities

The heritage committee at Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., has three upcoming events planned.

There is a Valentine’s dance planned 3-6 p.m. Feb. 20. Joe Kroboth Band will entertain.

A Mardi Gras Lumpenball (Bum’s Ball) is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. Feb. 27. Emil Schanta Band will entertain.

A St. Patrick’s Day event is set for 3-6 p.m. March 13, with music by John and Marie. The O’Grady Quinlan Academy dancers will make a guest appearance 4 p.m.

Coplay Sports is holding sign-ups 6-8 p.m. March 2 and noon-2 p.m. March 5 for the 2022 baseball season for ages 5-15. Sign-ups are at the Coplay Sports field house, 666 Potter Terrace.

Mayor Stephen J. Burker and his team are planning a winter celebration, including a dedication of Coplay’s new clock at Community Plaza.

Coplay Borough has a list of volunteers who will shovel snow for residents in need of assistance with the task.

Call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to either have your name added to the available shovelers’ list or for more information.

The soup, bread and discussion program restarts 6-7 p.m. March 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. This event is a fellowship event and features a soup and bread meal and a discussion of current events.

Looking ahead: St. John’s is also hosting a baked ziti pickup dinner, which includes a salad, applesauce, dinner roll and dessert, March 19.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., is seeking volunteers to make pierogies.

Contact the church at 610-262-2417 to join the team.

The church is also in need of volunteers for the summer picnic, set for Aug. 7.

St. Peter plans to offer companion niche ossuariums to church members for placement of remains at the cemetery on Hokendauqua Street. They are touted as less costly than a casket burial.
