Special to The Press
Catholic Schools Week kicked off Jan. 31 with a book drive to benefit Catholic Charities Ecumenical Soup Kitchen and Chew Street Community Center.
Homerooms donated appropriate books, in good condition, for children ages two through 17 which were collected all week. Students were also able to wear team jerseys.
On Feb. 1, Allentown Central Catholic High School students celebrated both student appreciation day and class color day (seniors/blue, juniors/purple, sophomores/red, freshmen/white, staff and faculty/pink).
Other theme days included: Feb. 2 – pajama day and Feb. 3 – adoration in all theology classes and breakfast club day, in which students could choose to dress up as a character from the movie “The Breakfast Club.”
There was a flexible instruction day Feb. 4 due to the inclement weather, so the final celebration was held Feb. 7. Allentown Central Catholic High School held a spirit wear dress down day and had a pep rally. It was also teacher appreciation day.
Viking Nation closed out Catholic Schools Week Feb. 7 with a pep rally, filled with fun events including a Miss/Mr. Central competition, performances from the dance team, cheerleaders and drum line and activities including “Pie the Teacher.”
On Feb. 7, the boys basketball coach, Dennis Csensits earned his 200th win as a Viking basketball coach with a win against Emmaus High School 56-18. Congratulations Coach Csensits!
On Feb. 6 during the Lehigh Valley Showcase held at Parkland High School, ACCHS student Tyson Thomas made a game winning three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left in the game earning him the Lehigh Valley Showcase MVP title. He also hit his 1,000 career point, against Northampton High School in overtime with a steal turned into a layup and a three-point play earlier. Great job, Tyson!
Congratulations to Natalie Woytek who performed with the District Chorus Feb. 5. She joined over 170 students from the surrounding area to participate in the one-day festival.
