Officers approved, signage and roofinga pproved

Marsha Fritz and Connie Postupack were unanimously elected to chair and vice chair respectively at the Historical and Architectural Review Board’s first regular meeting of 2022 on Feb. 2. This was the first meeting for 2022 as there had been no agenda items for review in January.

The in-person hearing held in the Rotunda was also live streamed.

Gail Howard was granted a certificate of appropriateness for signage for her business at the property she owns at 77 W. Broad St., Unit19. The two 28-inch by18-inch double-sided hanging signs feature “Designer Consigner Boutique” in off-white serif type with a pinstripe border on a black background.

They are to hang on existing decorative iron brackets attached to the brick walls of the contemporary multiple-unit building. One is to be installed at the Broad Street alleyway entrance near Ripper’s Pub and the other in a side alleyway.

Representing 239 and 241 Church St., contractor Travis Bauder received approval for roofing replacement proposals for each of the connected twin homes. While the existing slate shingles on the front façade remain, worn asphalt shingles on the front porch area and rear of the gabled roof are to be replaced with GAF Slateline “Antique slate” shingles.

When asked about product availability, as the commissioners were aware of supply chain issues with it, Bauder replied that his employer still had it stocked in their warehouse.

Jay and Joann Gosztonyi own 239. Their neighbor, Paul Ruest owns 241.

All voting was unanimous.

The Historical and Architectural Review Board regularly meets the first Wednesday of every month to review all exterior changes proposed to buildings in the Bethlehem Historic District north of the Lehigh River. When a proposed project receives a certificate of appropriateness from the board, applicants must wait for city council to vote on it before proceeding.
