Desales University

Tax help available

Junior and senior accounting students from DeSales University will provide tax preparation assistance free of charge through the U.S. Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The program runs through April 1. The program is for senior citizens, those with incomes below $54,000, people with disabilities, students, military and those who speak English as a second language.

To schedule an appointment, qualified individuals may call 610- 282-1100, ext. 1868. A DeSales student will return the phone call.

All in-person appointments will be conducted with all COVID-related precautions. Visitors to the DeSales campus are required to be masked.

Webinar planned for Feb. 22

Join Penn State Extension 9-11 a.m. Feb. 22 for its Turf and Ornamentals: Right-of-Way webinar to learn about the characteristics of common invasive plants found in Pennsylvania’s forests, fields and right-of-way areas.

Included in this presentation, will be information on the impact of invasive plants in the environment, how to identify 10 different invasive plant species, as well as basic management strategies.

This webinar is designed for private pesticide applicators and category 10 license holders.

Registrants will also receive access to the webinar recording.

Industrial maintenance course begins Feb. 28

NCC will hold a foundational skills Industrial Maintenance Training Program 10-week accelerated course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays from Feb. 28 to May 5. The grant-funded course is free to eligible participants. Quickbooks course begins Feb. 16

Introductory QuickBooks course (PCBUS100) - setting up company files, working with transactions and banking; Intermediate QuickBooks (PCBU200) -customizing forms, creating reports and graphs, inventory, tracking taxes, payroll, and more; will be covered in two different QuickBooks desktop version classes.

The introductory class is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 16. The intermediate classes are from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m March 2. Classes are at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Cedar Crest College

Senior exhibit open to March 4

“9+9 Senior Art Exhibition Practicum” opened Feb. 4 in the Center for Visual Research, Lachaise Gallery, Miller Family Building at Cedar Crest College. Works of six artists from the Lehigh Valley and the Cedar Crest College Art Department Collection will be on exhibit through March 4.

The presentation is designed and installed by nine senior art majors with input from Brian Wiggins, director of the Center for Visual Research. The experience will inform students of different career paths in the art exhibition field, including commercial galleries and institutions, as well as independent curation.
