During the Feb. 7 Macungie Borough Council meeting, the Streetscape project was discussed. Streetscape VI grant money has been received and has about $225,000 available for construction. This phase completes construction northbound on Route 100 from Mountain Creek to Poplar Street. This will complete both sides to Poplar Street.
Streetscape V construction will begin in April. This portion will complete installation of street improvements southbound on Route 100 to Poplar Street.
Applying for a grant to fix the retaining wall at Mountain Creek was discussed. It was suggested to apply for the grant; however, only conceptual plans are available and have not been approved by the planning commission. A homeowner is also involved. Council is reluctant to apply for the grant and it will be discussed further.
Several residents are concerned about the Fields at Brookside development. Concerns will be investigated.
Main Street Commons car wash plans were received for review.
It was reported Waste Management will not extend their current contract. An RFP will be generated to find another waste collector.
Darlene Misselbaeck, manager of the Macungie Institute, discussed the current progress of the Institute. Nine new rentals have been received with four rentals pending. There were 10 events hosted. Income received was $2,245.53 with $1,925.61 in expenses. Awareness about the Macungie Institute has increased through various social media spots.
Macungie police gave a report on December 2021 police calls with 181 incidents dispatched. There was also discussion on all incidents for the year 2021 which included harassment, traffic violations, search for a missing person and many others.
An executive session was held regarding personnel.
