A Berks County motorist was fatally injured in a three-vehicle accident on Chestnut Street near the intersection with Indian Creek Road, Upper Milford Township, 1:48 p.m. Jan. 30, according media releases from the Office of the Lehigh County Coroner and Forensics Center and Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville.
Scott Benfield, 36, of Hereford, was pronounced dead 7:14 p.m. Jan. 30 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, according to authorities.
The cause of death was detailed as multiple traumatic injuries suffered in the crash and the manner of death was determined to be an accident, according to the coroner’s office.
According to a media release from Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville, Benfield was traveling south on Chestnut Street behind a pickup truck. Benfield’s vehicle struck the rear of the truck before veering to the left and into the oncoming lane. The front of Benfield’s vehicle collided with a Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle, which was headed in the opposite direction.
Benfield sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was in critical condition at the time of the accident, according to authorities.
The occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.

A deputy coroner confirmed Benfield’s death to state police after he was pronounced dead by a doctor at the hospital, according to authorities.
