Ice hockey team wins two straight

Bethlehem Ice Hockey won its last two games, beating Emmaus, 9-5, and Phillipsburg, 11-2, on Jan. 24 at the PPL Center and on Jan. 31 at Bethlehem Municipal Ice Rink, respectively.

In the game against Emmaus, Bethlehem held the lead at the end of each period and was 1 for 1 on power plays when Mike Moniz scored within the first four minutes. Chris Fanning followed up with a goal less than 60 seconds later.

Emmaus’s first goal also came on a power play when Hunter Engleman scored on assists by Zachery Schantzenbach and Aaron Kirk at the seven minute mark.

Emmaus tied the game, 5-5, late in the second period on a goal by Edward Mirigliano, but with 30 seconds remaining, Matt Fanning put Bethlehem back in the lead on an assist by Ryan Hathaway.

Aidan Swenor had 15 saves for Bethlehem, and Angelo Greek had 29 saves for Emmaus.

In the game against Phillipsburg, it was the second time this season that Bethlehem defeated the Stateliners by nine goals.

Moniz and Stephen Callaghan provided more than half of Bethlehem’s scoring with a hat trick apiece.

All of Moniz’s goals came in the second period on assists by Brady Roche, Justin Gichiengo, and Matt Fanning.

Callaghan scored two goals in the first period on assists by Nolan Schleppy, Matthew Ingram, Hathaway, and Roche, and another in the third period on an assist by Chris Fanning.

Swenor made 17 saves for Bethlehem, and Michael Falkowski made 32 saves for Phillipsburg.

Bethlehem is scheduled to wrap up its regular season against Southern Lehigh on Feb. 14 at Bethlehem Municipal Ice Rink.
