Lady Falcons snap losing streak

The Salisbury High School girls basketball team has had some bad luck during the 2021-22 season with injuries and misfortune on the court. The team has been without one of its leading scorers in Krista Bonge for most of the season and has had a smaller number of players on the depth chart.

But that hasn’t stopped the Falcons from continuing to show up to each game and play hard, and for head coach Dan Reichenbach to continue to come up with game plans for success. That includes a victory at home on senior night against Colonial League foe Saucon Valley last Tuesday night. It was a much-needed win that halted an eight-game losing streak.

“This has been a rough season to say the least,” said Reichenbach. “The win Tuesday against Saucon Valley on senior night was a good game overall and much needed. The girls played hard and deserved to win on their night.”

Even with small numbers, Reichenbach has seen some solid production out of a few players in his lineup.

“Hannah Kamp has really improved this year,” Reichenbach said. “She is doing a great job rebounding and using her athleticism. She is also becoming a scorer. She is my most improved player this year. Quinn has been solid all year scoring around 14 per game and leading the team in assists and steals as well as being the team leader.”

Another highlight win this season came against perennial league contender Southern Lehigh back on December 22.

With five more games left this season, Salisbury is looking to finish off the year strong and earn a couple more victories on the court.

“We played well against Southern Lehigh, shot the ball well and played good defense,” said Reichenbach. “They were really short-handed that night. It will be interesting to see how we fare against them next time with their whole team available. I want to see the girls keep playing hard and improving. I feel we can get two more wins before the season is over.”

Salisbury has home games with Lehighton and Catasauqua this week, along with a road game against Northern Lehigh. The game with the Rough Riders on Friday night is the home finale. The Falcons will finish their schedule with games at Wilson (Feb. 2) and Southern Lehigh (Feb. 3).
