Falcon swimmers are improving their times

The Salisbury High School boys and girls swim teams have had eight meets so far during the 2021-22 season, and head coach Mackenzie Sikora has been pleased with how her team has been improving with each meet.

“The season so far has been great and the swimmers are getting better times each meet,” said Sikora. “I am happy with how hard they work in the pool at practice and you can see that translate over into our competitive meets. We want them to continue to improve their times every time they compete.”

Sikora highlighted some of her top individual student-athletes and their respective events. That includes Cameron Kubinsky in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yeard backstroke, Ella DeFazio in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Gavin Berger in the 50 freestyle. This trio is hopeful in leading a larger number of Falcons into postseason competition and the District 11 meet. Sikora is excited to be heading into the postseason and its change of pace from the regular season.

“I love the switch in morale, when for postseason each swimmer understands the honor to be a part of districts now since they limited the number of swimmers again for each event because of COVID,” Sikora said. “To qualify for and compete at districts, it is truly a privilege and a sentiment for hard work so I want as many of our student-athletes to make it as possible.”

With districts right around the corner, Sikora and her Falcons are working hard to better prepare themselves to keep cutting times and put themselves in a good position to earn medals on the podium.

“The goals for the postseason are to continue to drop times and have freshmen be able to experience a bigger meet and have the team prepared for it,” said Sikora. “The goal is to always be on that medal stand, and everyone wants to win, but I want our student-athletes to be competitive and work hard, and I think they’re doing that.”

Salisbury competes in three more meets this season, against Moravian Academy on Thursday and then two meets against Saucon Valley next week to round out the regular season.

The District 11 Championship meet is scheduled for March 4-5 at Parkland High School.
