FHS girls top ESN

Last Tuesday, Freedom’s swimmers were eying their last few meets of the season, when the Patriot girls defeated East Stroudsburg North, 110-43, at Freedom.

“Some of the more experienced kids are definitely where they should be. We have kids who aren’t as experienced and are right on their heels, and I have a couple kids who are just starting out and everything’s clicked. They’ve started to drop time. Things are looking up,” said Freedom coach Alisha Roscioli.

Two Patriot veterans, seniors Deb Belen and Aliah Corrado, won two individual events and two relay events apiece.

“I’m so proud of everyone,” said Belen, who sprinted to first place in the 50 freestyle in 27.39 and the 100 free in 1:03.67. “I went a good time (in the 50) but not what I was looking for. In the 100, I was kind of conserving my energy for the 200 free relay because we’re aiming for the district cut in faster heats. Other than that, I feel my swims were very good.”

Any energy Belen was able to conserve went to anchor the 200 free relay, winning the event along with Lilly Anderson, Alexia Ragab, and Corrado in 1:50.52.

Belen anchored the same threesome to score an opening-meet victory in the 200 medley relay in 2:05.17.

Corrado took first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.79 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.52.

Anderson was the 200 IM winner with a time of 2:46.92, and Ragab’s endurance won her a first place finish in the 500 free with a time of 6:13.53.

Zara Martin took first in the 200 free for the Patriots in 2:33.20.

The Patriot girls closed out the meet against the Timberwolves with a 400 free relay victory swum by Anaya Velez, Martin, Katie Twigger, and Maggie Marshaleck in 3:53.51.

Said Belen, “It’s such a great season, probably my favorite, probably because everyone’s so tight-knit. Everyone’s working super hard, and it’s paying off. I’m really proud of the dedication here. We’re gonna go big or go home.”

Freedom is scheduled to host Southern Lehigh on Thursday.
