Two area theater productions have been postponed because of the delta and omicron variant surges in the continuing drama of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
At the Nazareth Center for the Arts, the “Jurors” are out with the rescheduling of the arts center’s first production because of COVID-19 concerns, according to the director of the show.
Northampton Community College Theatre Department has announced it’s no “Sweat” for February with the production postponed until next school year.
But the show will go on at Bucks County Playhouse with the premiere of a new musical that includes real-life romance.
“That’ll Be The Day: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Romance” runs Feb. 4 - 6 in the New Hope theater.
“That’ll Be The Day” tells the story of performers Andy Christopher and Esther Stilwell, who met and fell in love while performing in the musical “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.”
The musical features songs by Buddy Holly, Adele, Hank Williams, The Beatles and Elvis.
It was at Lancaster’s Fulton Playhouse in 2014 when Christopher met Stilwell, who was performing in the show for the first time as Buddy Holly’s wife, Maria Elena Holly.
The couple fell in love, married and now live in New York City.
In the show, they share songs and tales from their musical theater careers as well as their time falling in love while performing together in “Buddy.”
Proof of vaccination and face masks are required at the theater at 70 S. Main St., New Hope.

The “Jurors” are out:
Nazareth Center for the Arts, 30 E. Belvidere St., Nazareth, was to present “Twelve Angry Jurors,” Jan. 14 - 16, but rescheduled performances April 29 - May 1.
“Jurors” director Paul Gerber stated on social media that “due to the continuing rise in COVID cases in our community as well as our cast, we will have to postpone our production of ‘Twelve Angry Jurors.’” Gerber is Artistic Theater Director of Nazareth Center for the Arts.
“Twelve Angry Jurors,” written by Reginald Rose for the Emmy-winning 1954 teleplay, “Twelve Angry Men,” was originally written for men. The Nazareth production has an all-gender cast.
Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test 48 hours prior to a performance is required. Face masks are optional.

No “Sweat”:
Northampton Community College Theatre Department is postponing its Feb. 17 - 20 performances of “Sweat” until the college’s 2022-2023 school year, according to NCC Theatre Department Head Bill Mutimer.
“With the temporary delay of NCC students returning to class, we did not feel we could do justice to this amazing play with an abbreviated rehearsal time,” says Mutimer.
Although NCC spring semester classes began Jan. 18 as planned, many classes were held online for the first two weeks out of an abundance of caution about COVID-19. Theater students and some other students were unable to be on campus.
NCC’s productions of “Cloud 9,” March 3 - 7, and “Xanadu,” April 21 - 24, are to be presented as planned.
