Municipal news
BETHLEHEM YARD WASTE: The Facility may be closed at times due to inclement weather and other factors. Check the city website.
Theis/Cornfeld Recycling Center, 635 Illick’s Mill Road, will not be accepting any Styrofoam materials until furthur notice.
Some meeting dates have changed for February due to Presidents’ Day and other events or holidays.
GRACEDALE COURSE: Gracedale has reinstated the Temporary Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) program. Participants may take an eight-hour course, earn a temporary CNA certificate and begin paid employment at Gracedale.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) offers an eight-hour online course for temporary certification for CNAs or Certified Nursing Aides. A standard CNA class takes four weeks, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services began allowing the on-line version in 2020 to help with staffing during the pandemic.
For more information about certification programs, please contact Amy Kahler at 610-829-3402 or akahler@northamptoncounty.org or apply online at https://www.northamptoncounty.org/HR/Pages/Recruitment.aspx
NORCO VETERANS HOUSE PAINTING: The Brush-up Our Veterans project coordinates the efforts of volunteers to paint the outside of homes of honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses who are low-income elderly or permanently disabled. This program is designed for homeowners who cannot afford to hire painters, do not have the ability to do the work themselves and do not have relatives who can do the work for them. There is no charge to the homeowner.
For information on this or other programs for veterans in Northampton County, contact the Veteran’s Affairs Office at 610-829-4877.
NORCO PRISON INSPECTION: Director of Corrections James Kostura announceD that Northampton County Prison (NCP) earned full compliance during its 2021 inspection period. The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and the Office of County Inspection Services conducted the inspection in November.
Receiving full compliance is a distinction earned when a facility and staff have met or exceeded Title 37, Chapter 95 expectations. Due to this status, the Department of Corrections is exempt from the normal one-year inspection cycle. Its next inspection will be conducted in 2023.
