NHS girls looking to take a stronger stance
Monday afternoon, Northampton head girls’ basketball coach Jeff Jacksits would have a good read on his team.
The Konkrete Kids had their six-game winning streak snapped with a 67-50 loss at North Schuylkill last week. They defeated Allen (60-22) the night before and Nazareth (53-7) a few days earlier.
Jacksits wondered how his team would respond.
“It turned out to be a bad day,” he said. “We were tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter, and we did have the lead early.
“We didn’t rebound well, and we had trouble with their foot speed. There also was an issue with the one ref. They were unconscious with their shooting for a while. We had hands in their faces, and they were still making their shots.
“They were quicker to the ball, and we need to step to the pass more. We weren’t making as many shots as we should have.”
Jacksits believed it was time to take a stronger stance for his 13-3 club that was in second place behind Easton in the District 6A bracket.
“We have to get better at some things,” he stressed. “We are right in the thick of the district race. We will need to work harder at practice, and have a little more serious approach.”
Junior center Grace Lesko continues to be a force down low for the Kids. She had 22 points in the loss to North Schuylkill.
“She really hasn’t been slowed down,” said Jacksits. “They double- and triple-team her, and she still manages to get free and score.”
The Kids had three games scheduled this week, beginning at Emmaus Tuesday, home against East Stroudsburg North Thursday, and at Allentown Central Catholic Friday.
“We should be able to take care of business against Emmaus and East Stroudsburg North,” said Jacksits. “Central is a big game for us. The game will be for our division as their only loss was to us earlier this year.
“We’ll see how we look this week.”
