Thirty years of serving breakfasts

How long has Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., been serving breakfasts?

Members say they can’t name a specific date but agree the Post has been serving breakfasts for as long as they can remember.

Membership historian Emeritus Joe Kovacs was initially not sure either.

Dave Schaffer said, “I remember [the first day] was after Valentine’s Day.”

Schaffer, of Emmaus, was one of the regulars at one point during the breakfasts over the years.

After some reflection, Kovacs, Schaffer and others determined this year actually marks the 30th anniversary of the breakfast milestone. The only mar on the horizon is that no one could remember who won the Super Bowl that year.

Thirty years is a lot of broken eggs, but also a significance that deserves a celebration. The 30th anniversary event will be Feb. 27.

During the special event, the Post will start with thanks - as it does every month - followed by the breakfast starting 8 a.m. Cake will be served.

There will also be a raffle for those who believe they know the score and players of the Super Bowl that was held 30 years ago. The grand prize is $20, donated by Councilman Paul Cmil. All entries need to be in by Jan. 31. Stella Gallagher will draw the winner.
