SnowBlast moved to March 5

The Emmaus’ SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival has been postponed from February to March 5 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Emmaus hosts its SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival at Emmaus Triangle Park and various downtown Emmaus venues. Come out in March and visit the vendors, enjoy the music and art, food and have fun. For information, visit emmausarts.org.

It’s soup season. Purchase a soup passport for the Soup Crawl, noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 19, then visit local Emmaus businesses while sampling yummy soups. Presented by the Emmaus Main Street Partners, Soup Crawl guests will have to purchase a passport and pick it up Feb. 19 to be stamped. The East Penn Chamber and Emmaus Main Street Partners have organized East Penn Restaurant Week Feb. 27 through March 5. Look for more details closer to the week.

Among the programs offered at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St. in February is Pinterest Party @ Home: Valentine’s Wreath Feb. 7. Sign up to get your wreath kit (all supplies are provided except cardboard, red market craft knife, paint brush and scissors). Limit four kits per family. The library will feature a movie matinee “Isn’t It Romantic,” 1 p.m. Feb. 12. (PG 13). There will be an Art Talk 6 p.m. Feb. 14 by this month’s featured artist. (RSVP to save your seat).

The library will open the block cabinet in the children’s wing 11 a.m. Feb. 5 and invite little builders (preschool and elementary school age students and their caretakers) to make some amazing things together. No registration required.

Teens should reserve their seats 2 p.m. Feb. 5 for an informational session with Tracy Fox, traffic safety coordinator for the Highway Safety Network. Bring your questions and learn about the road before getting your license. Direct reservations to Miss Sue at eplkids@cliu.org.

DeSales University Theater Department will present “Alice in Wonderland,” 11 a.m. Feb. 19. Register to save your seat for this special presentation as read and performed by students from DeSales. The performance is for ages three to elementary school and their caregivers.

Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs will visit the library 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24. Youngsters are invited to come out and read to the dogs. Bring your own book or choose one from the library. No registration is required.

Reminder: Emmaus Borough Hall is officially closed and will remain closed until further notice – at least 18 months. During that time borough offices are located at 420 S. Tenth St. The offices are closed Feb. 21 for Presidents Day.

Council meetings, planning commission meetings and zoning hearings during borough hall’s renovation will be held at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 139 N. Fourth St., Emmaus. Council will meet 7 p.m. Feb. 7 and 22 (please note this is a Tuesday due to the Monday Presidents Day holiday). Meetings are also available via Zoom. The Emmaus Farmers Market is open for its Winter Market, 10 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Sunday of the month through April at Triangle Park on Main Street in Emmaus. Come out and visit the vendors, browse the merchandise on sale and be entertained by the musical groups.

Lucky Bucks Bingo is back. This great event held in conjunction with the Emmaus Main Street Partners will be March 13 at Bethel Bible Fellowship Church 418 Elm St. Doors open 2 p.m. with bingo 3 to 6 p.m. The event also includes a 50/50 and basket raffle. Refreshments will be available. Tickets can be purchased at David’s Electric, Emmaus Jewel Shop or the Emmaus Historical Society.

Congratulations! In February, the Emmaus Historical Society celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The Emmaus Historical Society’s Museum, 218 Main St., has new winter hours – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Masks are required in the museum at present. Stop by for a visit and learn more about Emmaus’ history. Plans for resuming member meetings and programs are currently being reviewed.

The Emmaus Historical Society has scheduled three bus trips in 2022. The date for the first trip is to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse for “Sherlock Holmes” March 18 (not March 15 as previously stated). Call Nancy at 610-967-5715 to sign up for this trip by Jan. 29. The other trips are May 24 for “I Left My Dignity in My Other Purse” at Hunterdon and Aug. 16 for “David” at Sight & Sound Theater. The society’s museum committee appreciates all donations of memorabilia that came from, was used or enjoyed by residents in Emaus/Emmaus. The society is interested in vintage items, especially Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter decorations, cards or holiday-related items. The society’s fundraising committee will be launching the sale of Dan Schantz Monthly Maddness Cards March 5. Stop in the museum on Saturdays to purchase your cards or call the museum to place an order.

In February we welcome Jason B. Apgar as the new Emmaus Police Chief. We say farewell to Police Chief Troy Schantz, who is retiring. Also retiring in the near future is Public Works Director John Dychala. Best wishes for happiness in your retirements.

Plaudits to the Emmaus Police Department officers who participated in the No Shave November and Double Down December and raised $1,600 which was donated to people in need in the Emmaus area for Christmas 2021.
