Ernest P. Hoenl Jr., 92, of Allentown and formally of Coplay, died Jan. 14, 2022, at Mosser Nursing Home, Trexlertown. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Hoanzl) Hoenl.
He was a son of the late Ernest Sr. and Mary (Kulowitsch) Hoenl.
He was an U.S. Army drill sergeant stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, during the Korean War. He was first armored division pistol champion.
He was a district sales representative for A.A. Peters Inc.
He played trumpet for the Allentown Band and Pioneer Band. He was president of Coplay Rotary Club with 40 years of perfect attendance, attending meetings even while traveling in Europe and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was president of Whitehall AARP 3115. He was a member of Lehigh Valley and Suburban Trapshooting League.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane Suhocki with Raymond of Macungie; a son, Thomas with Sandra of Whitehall; four grandsons, Derek Kulhamer with Amanda, Matthew Hoenl with Tessa, Aaron Hoenl with Miranda and Nathan Hoenl; a granddaughter, Jenna Pettinelli with Michael; nine great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Dominic, Kiersten, Cecilia, Maeve, Francesca, Hailey, Miles and Elsie; a brother-in-law, Samuel Hoanzl with Faye; a niece; a nephew; and the extended Suhocki family.
