Easter Egg Hunt planned for April 9 in Salisbury

The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee met Jan. 17 for the first meeting of 2022. In attendance were Recreation Director Genny Baillie, Mark Wilson, Pat Jacoby and Trisha Dickert. Notably absent was the committee’s founding member 97-year-old Frank McCullough who represents Ward 5. McCullough decided not to renew his term as it expired in December 2021. As a long-standing member of the board he says he will continue to help out as needed and issue reports on the parks in his area.

Many of Salisbury Township parks are in the process of receiving a makeover. Work has begun at Green Acres Park to resurface the upper courts and line them for pickleball while at Devonshire Park the tennis courts will also be resurfaced and bathrooms refurbished. The tennis courts at Laubach are on track to be relined for pickleball in the spring and a new set of swings have been installed at Lindberg Park. Currently, the swings are roped off until spring when a safety surface will be placed.

The committee discussed the many community events in the works, the first of which is the Easter Egg Hunt. After a two year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions the egg hunt is scheduled to take place 10 a.m. April 9. The location will be announced at a later date.

Last year many successful free community events such as family movie nights and band concerts were held. With this in mind the committee has begun to schedule these events for 2022. The band AM Radio has been booked for a concert Sept. 24. Food trucks will be available during the concert so mark your calendars for a night of good food and music from the 60s and early 70s.

Additionally, a community IronPigs game will be scheduled as well as events to participate in National Night Out Aug. 2.

Plans are underway to bring back the township’s summer playground program which has been on hold for two summers due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols. At this time, Baillie is seeking individuals at least 16 years of age with a driver’s license who are interested in working as a counselor for the summer program. Applications can be picked up at the municipal building or call and have an application mailed to you. Completed applications must be submitted by March 31.

The next recreation advisory committee meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. March 21 in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown.
