New fire chief introduced
Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council held a reorganization meeting Jan. 10 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.
Council Chairman Bruce Paulus was not in attendance, which delayed the election of the council chairman, as three board members voted to re-elect Paulus.
Councilman Michael Woolley was re-elected as vice chairman, and Councilmen Rick Tocci and Robert Lawlor took new oaths of office, as their previous terms had expired.
Council voted to consolidate resolution 2022-3 through resolution 2022-23 into a single motion, which re-elected township positions. The group passed all of the resolutions, reappointing all previous positions held in 2021 to be carried over to 2022. A complete list of elected officials can be found on the township website, hanleco.org.
Following the reorganization meeting, council held its monthly public meeting.
Nick Marlowe was introduced as Han-Le-Co Fire Company’s new chief.
Marlowe, who has served the fire company for many years, said he is looking forward to leading in his new position.
Han-Le-Co Fire Company representatives were asked to take an oath in front of the council, but declined to do so under the rationale they serve the township, but do not take oaths under the township.
In other business, council discussed construction work on Chestnut Grove Park’s basketball court. Township Engineer Al Kortze explained the court is beyond repair and is in need of a new surface and equipment. In order to move forward, council must pass a bill to allow Kortze to put in bids for the removal of the existing court. Council approved the action with four votes.
Council also gave approval for Township Manager Melissa Wehr to advertise new waste collection contracts.
Wehr will advertise the contracts Feb. 4, 8 and 12. The new contracts include weekly or biweekly recycling options and Christmas tree removal available for a few weeks after the holiday. Council approved with four votes.
Council will meet 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the municipal building for the next workshop meeting. To view the agenda, visit the township’s website and click on the council department page.
