Irene E. (Stofanak) Horvath

Irene Elizabeth (Stofanak) Horvath, 89, died January 17, 2022. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of Stephen and Mary (Hendrichovsky) Stofanak. She was the wife of the late John P. Horvath.

She was a Liberty HS graduate. She studied Criminal Justice at Northampton Community College.

She was an executive secretary in the sales department at Bethlehem Steel. She and her husband operated their business, Laufer’s Hardware; she handled accounts payable/receivable and other work.

She volunteered for local political campaigns. She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She was in musical and theatrical productions, including the Tatra Slovak music group for over 30 years. She sang in Musikfest Polka Mass services.

She was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, where she sang in the Resurrection Choir and was a lector.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy and her husband Paul Coulter of Lake Forest, California; Diane Horvath of Bethlehem and Mary Ann and her husband Greg Baunach of Allentown; a son, John Jr. of Lansford; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Brandon Cogley, Christopher Coulter, Sarah Strain, Gregory Baunach and Cameron Coulter; a great-grandson, Lincoln Cogley, and another great-grandson on the way; two sisters, Mary Rzucidlo and Dorothy Orbin; and two brothers, Stephen and William Stofanak.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 Another viewing will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 9-10:15 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
