NORTH WHITEHALL: St. John’s UCC Quilters meet Wednesday mornings

BY SUSAN RUMBLE

Special to The Press

The quilting group at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, gathers together every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

One of the recent projects was to make place mats for recipients of Meals on Wheels.

In mid-December 2021, quilters delivered 125 place mats in all different patterns to the Meals on Wheels headquarters for distribution during the holiday season.

New members are invited to participate and have some fun with the various sewing endeavors.

Pastor James Gottwald reports the year 2021 was a time of continued adaptation and patience for the ministry.

He offered thanks for the church community which cares for one another and is committed and courageous in sharing the gospel.

Gottwald says he looks forward to the doors God may open for all in the year 2022 and to his term as a Penn Northeast Conference moderator.

Pastor Gordon Camp of Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, provided some thoughts on the year just ended.

“The year 2021 may have been a bad year for us in many different ways,” Camp said. “But as we leave this year behind, do we want to think of it as just gone, or as Christians, is it better for us to look back at the year as a time when Christ cared for us in the face of a pandemic?”

Camp continued his message.

“I would encourage us to look at 2021 and all years not as moments to be discarded. Our lives are filled with good years, bad years, and very painful years, but they are all years in which Christ cares for us.”

The pastor concluded his remarks.

“Whether they are years in the past, or years to come. God will always care for us as He promised, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, invites young people ages 3 to fifth grade to attend Children’s Church each Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service.

They have time for their own activities and a Bible message in the education rooms while their parents are at worship in the sanctuary.
