Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong updates council

Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong attended the Jan. 17 Macungie Borough Council meeting. Armstrong updated council on the upcoming upgrade of the 911 system which is a major project.

A correction was made from the last meeting where officers and council members were installed. Greg Hutchison was elected as vice president.

Linn Walker resigned from the planning commission and water authority.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection rejected Macungie’s request for a grant.

Mayor Ron Conrad announced he is working with the fire department to update the emergency management plan.

There was a discussion regarding Facebook posts involving the Macungie Institute. A motion was made to make sure Macungie Institute trustees do not post on the Facebook page without authorization from council. This was approved.

A property at 99 Main St., which was the location of Tyler Pipe, is presently being used by Mack Trucks for parking trucks. This property is not zoned for this. A request was made to rezone the area so this can remain a parking lot for trucks. The request is being investigated.

An annual resolution for depositories and signatories was approved. These include the president, vice president, the borough manager, secretary, treasurer and borough clerk/treasurer.

Resolution 2022-04 was approved for the 2022 schedule of fees and charges.

Resolution 22022-05 was approved allowing for a liaison between the borough and Berkheimer Tax Innovations. The liaisons are the borough manager and the assistant treasurer.

An animal rescue group, Logan’s Heroes, spoke at the meeting about the agency’s rescues and attempts to find homes for the animals. They are also seeking financial assistance through fundraisers and other events. The agency is located in East Greenville. Their website is LHARinc.org. Online donations are welcome.

An executive session was held about personnel issues.

The next borough council meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie.
