FHS girls tie, boys fall
Freedom and Northampton’s girls swam to an 83-83 tie while Northampton’s boys topped Freedom’s boys, 80-67, last Tuesday at Freedom.
“I’m so happy with how they did today,” said Freedom swim coach Alisha Roscioli. “They really pulled through and there were last minute changes but the kids were like, OK, and did their thing and did awesome. These kids have a lot of determination this year, and they’re showing it.”
Both Freedom girls and boys 200 medley relay teams opened the meet with first place finishes- Lilly Anderson, Alexia Ragab, Aliah Corrado, and Deb Belen with a time of 2:03.35, and Andrew Ehret, AJ Black, Luke McClure, and Ryan Rummel with a time of 1:47.89.
“I did pop a pretty good fly time tonight,” said McClure of his leg in the medley. “We did very well and should be doing pretty well in the district with that.”
McClure went on to win the 50 free in 24.07 and the 100 free in 54.01.
Belen won the 200 free in 2:22.91 and the 100 free in 1:03.12 while Black took first place in the 200 free for the Patriot boys in 2:12.75.
Ehret swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM in 2:08.44, and Corrado won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.99.
“I think it was that they were pretty close and I didn’t want to let them get that touch,” said Corrado of her performance in the fly.
The 200 free relay was won by the Patriot foursome of Bela Vega, Jasmine Chiu, Katie Twigger, and Paige Anderson in 2:05.31.
Rummel placed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.00.
Black won the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.06, and Corrado took first in the same event in 1:17.74.
“I haven’t swum that event in awhile, and I didn’t know what to expect, but I was happy with what I ended up getting,” Corrado said. “I was a little scared (in the 400 free relay) because I just got through swimming the breaststroke. It was pretty close and I surprised myself because I swam the fastest I ever went in that event.”
Northampton’s girls were winners in the 400 free relay by less than one second.
“[The screaming]- that freaked me out but in the best way,” said Corrado, who swam anchor for the Pates.
