Dreisbach to fill open Coplay council seat
During the Jan. 11 Coplay Borough Council meeting, a motion was made by Councilman Charles Sodl to approve Michael Dreisbach for the open seat on borough council for a two-year term.
After the vote was taken, the motion passed 3-2 to approve Dreisbach for the open seat. Five of the six Coplay Borough Council members were in attendance.
A motion to approve Matthew Haedrich as deputy chief of Coplay Fire Department was also made and was taken to a vote. Council unanimously approved the appointment.
Council President Louis Bodish appointed specific council members to head the various committees. Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer will lead finance and administration, and Sodl will lead emergency services as they both had last year.
The IT security committee is newly established this year and will be led by Councilman Mark Molitoris and the newly approved Dreisbach. Molitoris will also take over as the lead of the park and recreation committee and will be the Coplay Sports liaison.
Councilman Rick Kern will lead the grants committee, and Councilman Carl Luckenbach will be the chairman for the public buildings committee. The Ironton Rail Trail liaison will be Joe Bundra.
In other news, council also approved the PennBid from Alan Kunsman Roofing & Siding for the roof replacement on the borough building.
Also at the meeting, Bodish noted the public works department will continue Christmas tree pickups Fridays through the end of January.
Dennis Wehr Jr., a Coplay resident and the owner and operator of Dennis Wehr Plumbing Service, was approved by council to fill the vacancy on Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority left by the death of John Schreiner.
Clarification: In a recent story on the 2022 budget, Eisenhauer noted there will be a small tax increase. She said the larger tax increase from the previous year was due to the new borough building on Bridge Street.
