Stephen “Deets” J. Guttman, 92, of Northampton, died Dec. 27, 2021, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Taras) Guttman.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Rudolph and Helen (Knausser) Guttman.

He was a three-sport athlete at Northampton High School in the 1940s.

He was in the U.S. Army during Korean conflict.

He did a stint with a Boston Red Sox-affiliated minor league team. He was a GE/Black and Decker machine operator for 33 years.

He was a member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton.

He coached and was involved with the Northampton Athletic Association for 60 years. The NAA complex and the Northampton Recreation Center’s multipurpose room are named in his honor for his volunteer and community service years.

He is survived by three sons, Stephen J. Jr. and his wife Ann Marie, Michael A. and his wife Jerry Lynn and John D. and his wife Jennifer; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Spengler.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Rudolph and John.
