Grace M. Cann

Grace M. Cann, 79, of Alburtis, died peacefully Nov. 21, 2021, following a cancer diagnosis more than two years ago. She was the wife of Roger Cann. They were married for 53 years. Born in Sharon, she was a daughter of F. Dale and Christiana M. (Gilliland) McGrath.

She graduated from Mercer Area High School in 1960 and Clarion University in 1964 with dual degrees in social work and social sciences. She earned a master’s degree in library science in 1971 from Kutztown State College.

In the 1960s, she worked as a caseworker for the Northampton County Children’s Bureau and as a librarian in the Northampton Area School District.

She was a faithful member of Faith Evangelical Free Church of Allentown and Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship of Emmaus.

Her favorite hobby was reading and she also enjoyed learning genealogy and family history. She was very patriotic and liked to work the polls on Election Day.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Roger D. (Kim), of Lehighton; a daughter, Nancy (Barte) Shadlow, of Allentown; grandchildren, Erika (Travis) Ebersole, of Jonestown, Tyler, of Lehighton and Liliana and Samuel Shadlow, of Allentown; great-granddaughters, Kendall Virginia (Ginny) Ebersole and Harper Lee-Grace Ebersole, both of Jonestown; sisters, Alice (Paul) Campbell, of Clarksville, Tenn. and Marcia (John) Cater, of Ellwood City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the missions department of the donor’s local church.

In keeping with her wishes, there are no public services but moments of remembrance were held during Sunday school and church services.

Condolences may be mailed to her husband at P.O. Box 919, Alburtis, 18011. Arrangements were made by the Pennsylvania Cremation Society.
