Charles William Crompton, 93, of Macungie, died Dec. 29, 2021. He was the husband of Emma Lorine Daughtridge Crompton for 69 years. Born in Gallatin, he was the son of the late Fred Crompton Sr. and Della Adamson Crompton.
A child of the Great Depression, he carried a “Waste not want not” attitude and was instilled with a very strong work ethic, often working two jobs for most of his adult life.
He was employed by US Steel Fairless Works for 32 years laboring predominately in the “Open Hearth” and helping pioneer development of “Electric Furnaces.”
He proudly served four years in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
After retiring he and his wife spent many years at their mountainside retreat in Fort Loudon. He was an active member of the Mercersburg Sportsman Association, receiving the Sportsman of the Year Award.
He was an avid Phillies fan and was a proud member of the Macungie VFW Post 9264 where he attended monthly meetings enjoying the company of many friends while serving as trustee.
He was a member of the Lehigh Valley Baptist Church, Emmaus.
He was a man with few needs, displaying a big heart and was happiest wearing his dungarees and suspenders.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Bill and his wife, Eileen, Donald, Paul and his wife, Sue; a daughter, Terri; a sister, Grace Irey. He was predeceased by brothers, Fred Jr., Marion George; sisters, Eva Straughn, Lois Thompson.
