EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. I am one of four kids, of which I am the third. I have an older brother named Joseph, an older sister named Isabella and a younger sister named Sophia. My mom’s name is Nicole and my dad’s name is Scott. We have two hamsters, named Kiwi and Rhino.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is math. This is because I really enjoy how most problems have an explicit answer, except the path to get to that answer can be as unique as the person answering it would like.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. Some of my most proud accomplishments at Emmaus would be ranking fifth place at State National History Day for group exhibit and being able to perform with the State Chorus Ensemble. Other than those, I have received a Spirit Award, as well as three chorus awards and three academic excellence awards.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I participate in the Hornet Ambassadors, Fermata, Activism Club, National Honor Society, spring musical and Mathletes. The main way in which COVID-19 has affected these activities is the lack of big events, as COVID-19 regulations prevents most major events from occurring unless they take place outside.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. For me personally, online learning was a huge challenge. This is because I normally see a very sharp divide between my house and school, with school being a place for learning and home being a place of comfort and due to the fusing of the two, I found it difficult to maintain motivation and keep my focus.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My next goal is to attend college and major in biochemistry, biology or chemistry, with the intention of attending a medical school after graduation.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire all the teachers who have shown me what it is like to be truly passionate about a subject. It was through their passion that I gained a better understanding of the material and began to enjoy classes rather than taking them just because they are a requirement.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as a hardworking student who came to school everyday with a positive attitude.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Just keep trying, even if you don’t get the results you want. Your hard work will eventually pay off.
