Boys win Salisbury tourney

Northampton’s boys’ basketball team will begin the second half of their season in the same fashion they have for four of the past five years.

The Konkrete Kids recently captured the Salisbury Holiday Tournament. Isaac Harris was named as the tournament Most Valuable Player and Lucas Lesko was named to the all-tournament team.

Yet, head coach Coy Stampone is cautiously optimistic about his team that sports a 4-3 record.

“It was nice to win the tournament,” he said. “It is always a well-run tournament, and we picked up some nice wins against Quakertown and Salisbury.

“But we still have not put together four quarters to play a complete game.”

Stampone believes his team can have another successful jump-start to their second stanza. It will be one filled with some roadblocks ahead.

“Hopefully, we will find our stride this week with Beca (Bethlehem Catholic) Tuesday and an undefeated Emmaus team Friday, “ he said. “We are doing our best to juggle our lineup because of minor injuries and COVID protocols.

“Hopefully, we will get in our 22-game regular season schedule.”

The Kids understand there will be a challenge ahead.

“The next couple of weeks will be interesting with the COVID surge, going back to school, and playing two or three games a week,” said Stampone. “I feel our fall sports players are getting into basketball mode and that usually happens around the Christmas tournament.”

Stampone wants to keep his team’s goals in focus.

“Our goal is to improve at each practice and each game,” he said. “Hopefully, we want to be in the mix at the end of the year.

“We always want to play meaningful games at the end of January and the beginning of February.

“It will be fun.”
