‘O come, let us adore Him’

The 42nd annual “Live Bethlehem Christmas Pageant” performance was held Dec. 11 and 12 at the Bethlehem Rose Garden within the bandshell. Musical Prelude began at 1:45 p.m. and the story in song was performed by The Chancel Choir of Bethany, United Church of Christ, under the direction of Susan Denninger Wright. The event was opened by narrator William Schellhaas, who said the opening prayer. President of Live Bethlehem Christmas Pageant David Landis welcomed guests. The pageant was organized and presented by the Reverend Leonardo Iacano for the first time on Christmas Eve in 1978 at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in South Bethlehem. “Baby Jesus,” played by baby Blake, is held by Angela Kopchak, who played “Mary” for the Live Nativity at the 8th Street Rose Garden. Once the “Live Bethlehem Christmas Pageant” ended, guests were invited to the bandshell to see the actors.
Taking a moment to pet one of the many animals present after the “Live Bethlehem Christmas Pageant” is Bethlehem resident Connie Cueller, who resides in view of the bandshell. She has been attending the pageant all of its 42 years. Cueller is the great-aunt of Allison Bellis, 8, of Palmerton, left, who enjoys the display every year as a family tradition.
