Dolores Hattie Curry

Dolores Hattie Curry, 88, of Bethlehem, died December 22, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Muhlenberg Campus. Born in Curry Canyon, near Hill City, South Dakota, she was a daughter of the late Violet (Hudspeth) Olson and Robert Curry.

She earned a B.S. in Education from Stroudsburg Teachers’ College. She earned a M.A. in Community Counseling at Lehigh University. She trained to be a lay leader in the church working for social justice with the National Institute for Lay Training at the General Theological Seminary, New York City.

She was a counselor in New Jersey and at Northampton County Children and Youth. She taught special education for several years. She was a psychotherapist at Innisfree Village, Crozet, Virginia. She developed and presented workshops on Discovering Your Gifts of Ministry. Her autobiography “Dolores, They Say You Can’t Get Here from There”was published in 2013.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Easton; St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Sturgis, South Dakota; and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Sacramento, California.

She is survived by two daughters, Marcie Lightwood and her husband Rick Weaver and Lorie Lichtenwalner and her husband Bill Ceccolini; a sister, Rose Marie Wise and her husband Allen Wise. She will also be remembered by her 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 more great grandchildren on the way and many nieces and nephews in the large extended family.

She was predeceased by a son, Daniel O. Lichtenwalner; and three sisters.
