School district changes meeting schedule

After 30 years of meeting twice a month, the Parkland School Board will shift to only one monthly meeting for calendar year 2022.

The meetings, which will begin at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month, take place in the Administration Center, 1210 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall.

Workshop sessions, previously undertaken once a month one hour before the routine board meeting, and which included presentations from administrators, financial advisors, architects, construction managers, educational partners and various consultants, will now be incorporated within the regular board meeting agenda.

In addition to the monthly meetings, the board plans a budget seminar on April 29 and reorganization on Dec. 6, 2022.

Director of Community Relations and Development Nicole McGalla provided background on the change.

She noted Superintendent Dr. Mark Madson suggested the board would be able to conduct business in one meeting per month instead of two.

“He said ‘If something can be combined, why not do it?’” she explained. “The board agreed, so that’s what they’re doing.”

During the week before the third Tuesday of each month, except during July, the district’s three standing committees will convene.

These include the Buildings, Grounds, Transportation, and Cafeteria Committee; Personnel and Finance; and Academics, Arts, and Athletics.

No committee meetings are held in July.

At the Dec. 21 meeting, the board approved the 2022 schedule.

Meetings are open to the public and are intended for general purposes, as well as for special presentations.
