Participants in Zephyr Elementary School's Girls on the Run program pose for a photo after completing a recent practice 5-K with their coaches, Ashley Koren and Jordan Horsley. Girls on the Run is an after-school program for fifth-grade students to learn different lessons to help them succeed - increasing self-esteem and empathy, learning how to choose friendships and building character skills. Each day, they learn a different lesson and then practice a run. Students participated in a 5-K at the end of the season Dec. 4 at DeSales University.
For the Girls on the Run program, students completed a community impact project. The girls planned, created a door hanger and implemented a snack cart to show their appreciation for their teachers. Pictured is Jenn Legori, a fourth-grade teacher.
Koren and her students gather together for a group huddle.
