Schaller leads LU womens soccer in points

Many former Parkland High School athletes competed on college athletic teams during the fall 2021 season. Many of them were scheduled to start or finish their college careers last season before the pandemic wiped out nearly all college sports last fall.

Here’s a look at some of former Trojans who are now competing at the next level in fall sports.

Sophomore forward Ava Schaller played in all 17 Lehigh University womens soccer games this fall, making 16 starts. She led the team with 11 points on four goals (tied for team high) and three assists (tied for second on team). Two of her goals were game-winners.

Joey Guida was recently named MVP of the game for the Lycoming College football team’s MAC-Centennial Bowl Series win over Urisinus. Guida ran for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries in the 31-23 win. The junior running back carried the ball 104 times and led the team in rushing yards (554) and rushing touchdowns (7) in 2021, which were all team-highs. He also caught 13 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown while helping the Warriors to an 8-3 season.

Freshman wide receiver Jordan Lewis played in all 10 games for the Moravian University football team this fall. He hauled in 13 receptions for 104 yards in his first season in Bethlehem.

A few former Trojans were part of this year’s East Stroudsburg University football team. Sophomore kicker Devin Bartholomew made 11 of 17 field goal attempts this season for the Warriors (5-6, 3-4). He converted all 29 of his extra-point attempts. His longest field goal was 50 yards against West Chester on Oct. 16. Freshman wide receiver John Siggins played in 10 games and made one catch for 16 yards in his first college season. Sophomore offensive linemen Jared Fenstermaker is also on the roster at ESU.

Mason Malozzi played in all 11 games this season for the Bloomsburg University football team. He was second on the team with 44 solo tackles and 62 total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss. The redshirt junior also picked off a pair of passes and recovered a fumble for the Huskies.

Offensive lineman Michael Bennett played in all 11 games this fall for the Millersville University football team. The redshirt sophomore has appeared in 20 games in two seasons of college football.

Ja-lon Parkins played in seven games for the Colgate football team this season. The sophomore defensive lineman made nine tackles, including four solo stops.

Madison Zaun has been the one of the top runners this season on the Lehigh University womens cross country team. The junior was first for her team and fifth overall at the Lehigh Invitational in September and was first overall in a win over Lafayette that same month. She finished second on the team (154th overall) a the Penn State National meet and fourth on the team (130th overall) at the Paul Short Invitational.

Riley Williamson competed for the Lehigh University mens cross country team after his sophomore season was canceled. He placed among the top 12 on the Mountain Hawks team in most of their races this season.

Matt Santacoloma finished in 10th place in the 8K at the MAC Championships this fall. He was one of three DeSales University runners in the top 10 as the team finished second in the conference championship meet. The finish earned him First-Team All-MAC honors. The former Parkland Trojan followed that up with a 32nd-place finish (second on his team) at the NCAA East Metro Regionals Championships, helping his team tied a program-best eighth place finish at regionals.

Sophomore Logan Iacobelli competed for the Kutztown University mens cross country team this fall. He was among the top five to cross the line for the Golden Bears in all their meets this fall, with his best finish coming at the DeSales Invitational (8th place). He finished 53rd at the PSAC Championships.

The Bloomsburg University mens soccer team benefited from having some former Trojans in its line up this season. Alex Wilsterman led the Huskies with five goals and 13 points this season. The sophomore midfielder started in 17 games for the Huskies (9-9, 7-7) this fall and posted a team-high shooting percentage of .294. He assisted on three goals, which tied for second on the team. Bryce Evans, a senior midfielder, started in 15 games and recorded one goal this season. Evans has started in 51 games over three seasons with the Huskies. He’s scored three goals and assisted on two others.

Dawson Berger played in 18 Lehigh University soccer games and made 16 starts. The senior midfielder/defender had one assist this fall for the Mountain Hawks and has three for his college career. In Berger’s four seasons at Lehigh he’s made 34 starts and played in 52 games.

Owen Iacobelli started 16 games for the Shippensburg University mens soccer team, scoring two goals and assisting on four in 2021. In three seasons for the Raiders, the senior midfielder has played in 34 games and scored six goals while assisting on four.

Helen Flynn started all 22 games for the Bloomsburg University womens soccer team in 2021. The senior midfielder scored four goals to help the Huskies (15-5-2) reach the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Flynn has played in 55 games and made 41 starts in three seasons of college soccer.

Freshman midfielder Zoe Schutter played in eight games for the Lehigh womens soccer team in the fall 2021 season.

Janelle Barna is a graduate student who played on the Elizabethtown College womens soccer team for her fourth season after the pandemic canceled her senior season. The midfielder scored four goals and assisted on two others this fall for the Blue Jays (7-7-4) to finish third on the team with 10 points and tie for second on the team in goals.

Senior defender Darian Brickhouse played in nine games and made three starts for the DeSales University womens soccer team in 2021. Another former Trojan, freshman goal keeper Katie Kunz, was also on the DeSales womens soccer roster this fall.

Senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach led the Moravian University womens volleyball team with 284 kills this season while playing in a team-high 101 sets and 27 matches. She also led the team in digs with 372. In her three seasons in Bethlehem Dreisbach has played in 909 matches and 321 sets while making 666 kills and 1043 digs.

Brooke Kratzer played in 18 matches for the Bloomsburg womens volleyball team this fall. The junior setter had 22 assists, six digs and a pair of aces this fall.

Olivia Viccari played in 11 games for the Temple University field hockey team. The freshman midfielder earned two starts in her first college season. Maddie Molchany, a freshman back/midfielder, played in six games for the Owls this fall.

Sophomore defender Erica Steele played in 15 games and made two starts for the Lehigh University field hockey team this season. She posted two goals on four shots in her first fall season in Bethlehem.

Freshman midfielder Alex Marstellar started 17 and played in all 19 games for the Binghamton University womens soccer team this fall. The former Trojan had one assist and nine shots.

Penn State junior field hockey goalie Brie Baracco played every minute of every game in goal for the Nittany Lions over her firs two seasons in State College. In her third season this fall, Bracco started all 20 games and played 1227.54 minutes, which amounts to all but six minutes and 47 seconds of game time in helping the Lions go 14-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten. Parkland graduate and PSU freshman Aubrey Semler was also on the Penn State team this year.

Sophomore defender Jordan Madise played in one game this season for the Kings College mens soccer team.
