William J. Matwey Jr., 80, of Macungie, died Nov. 9, 2021, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Peggy Matwey for the last 27 years. He was married to the late Halina Ryczek Matwey for 18 years. Born in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late William and Loretta Matwey.

He graduated from Newark High School, Newark, Del., Class of 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force on active duty for four and one-half years.

He attended Husson College and obtained an associate degree in business administration. He finalized his studies at the University of Delaware in economics.

He worked for 35 years in credit management for Sears Roebuck and upon retiring then retired a second time from CitiGroup Credit Management.

After his retirement in 2004 he and his wife spent time hiking in the Arizona desert, traveling together and also with their children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Adrienna and her husband, Ted Werner, of Camden, Dela.; stepdaughters, Alyson Girton and Elizabeth Varga, both of Harleysville; granddaughters, Halina and Annamarie Werner; step-grandchildren, Katryna and Benjamin Girton; sisters, Joanne and her husband, Walt Samans, of Middletown, Dela., Christine Bekowski, of Newark, Del. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Cummings.
