The Dec. 6 reorganization meeting which was slated to swear in newly-elected board members was temporarily put on hold due to the pending legal challenge concerning mail-in ballots in Lehigh County.
At issue are 260 mail-in ballots which were submitted without dates on the outer envelope which could affect a tight race between Democrat Zachary Cohen and Republican David Ritter.
The Lehigh County Board of Elections voted to defer certifying the results of the election which, in turn, affected the outcome of races on the local level. This meant newly elected board members in the county cannot be sworn into their elected positions until the court challenge is resolved and elections can be certified.
In addition to the deferment of certification at the county level, it was noted mail notice requirements for reorganization under the public school code had not been met so it was decided the reorganization meeting be recessed in an effort to mail out the proper notification.
The motion was passed and a reorganization meeting was rescheduled for the week of Dec. 13.
