It was announced at the Dec. 1 council meeting of Hanover Township, Lehigh County, that fire Chief Garren Knoll of Han-Le-Co gave notice he was stepping down.
Discussions have been ongoing for months, but the chief and the township agreed to relinquish the fire chief role. Han-Le-Co is a volunteer organization.
According to township Manager Melissa Wehr and Solicitor Jackson Eaton, there were instances where protocols allegedly were not followed properly. Knoll disputed those allegations and contended there can be room for interpretation.
Knoll has a standard job as fire inspector. Knoll said he would like to continue in some capacity with the volunteer group.
In other news, township Engineer Albert Kortze reported the repavement project at Postal Road is completed.
Council approved the increase of the five-year capital account by 5 percent.
Councilman Robert Heimbecker reported on the response status from the Pennsylvania State Police.
“We had a report last month, and the patrols seem to be effective and more frequent,” he said.
It was reported progress it being made regarding truck traffic in the area. Some line-of-sight situations were reportedly addressed and signage was better with the larger signs in places.
Officers have reportedly been seen ticketing drivers, although the drivers are reporting they are just following their GPS coordinates. The township has good contact with the drivers and dispatchers.
The FedEx Ground and Amazon drivers are reported to be following the procedures, but there are problems with independent drivers.
