School board retirees honored

At the final board meeting before reorganization in December, two retiring members were recognized for their contributions to the Parkland School District.

During their last meeting on Nov. 16, Linda Perlman-McKenna and Robert Bold commented on their school board experiences.

Perlman-McKenna stated she ran for a position on the board four years ago to contribute her efforts to providing educational opportunities for Parkland students.

Board Vice President Carol Facchiano noted Perlman-McKenna always asked insightful questions at committee meetings which helped everyone learn more about the topics discussed.

Board member Lisa Roth said Perlman-McKenna kept careful notes from meetings and was very helpful in supplying a record of what had transpired during board conversations.

Bob Bold, who stepped in this spring to fill the unexpired term of Marie Maritch who resigned, had previously served on the board from 1999-2019.

Bold was asked to comment on his second board retirement.

“I’ll repeat what I said the first time,” Bold said. “Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.

“The kids that we have today have many more years of tomorrow.”

He recalled his own childhood in the 1940s and 1950s was during a simpler time, compared to the complicated world of today.

“Please keep doing everything you can for the children of our school district,” Bold said. “It’s up to us to make sure they have good tomorrows.”

Board member Marisa Ziegler reported Bold always could provide historical background on school matters, as he had a 30-year career as a teacher in the Allentown School District.

At the same time, he was looking toward preparing for the future of Parkland students, Ziegler added.

Reorganization and installation of new board members was to take place Dec. 7.
