Fields of Brookside requests waivers

A presentation of a proposed development called The Fields at Brookside was given during the Dec. 6 Macungie Borough Council meeting. This development would be near Brookside Country Club. The development would consist of 66 single family homes to be built by Kay Builders.

Colliers Engineering & Design made the presentation. There were three waivers presented. The first one is to allow for wider sidewalks which will accommodate golf carts. This, in turn, will make for more narrow streets.

The second waiver is about the sidewalk ordinance. The developer is requesting wider sidewalks due to golf carts.

The third waiver is regarding the sidewalk ordinance again with a proposal of a grass safety strip between the sidewalk and roadway.

In other business, Carl Sell resigned from the zoning hearing board. Sell was appointed by Resolution 2021-18 to replace Ryan Hanosek.

Bidding was completed for Phase V which is the extension of the Streetscape project to Poplar Street.

Phase VI is to extend the project to Chestnut Street on both sides of Main Street. This is being submitted for bidding.

Angela Ashbrook submitted her resignation from the planning commission effective Nov. 16.

Angela Faidley sent a letter of interest for a Macungie Institute Trustee.

The Macungie facility manager was chosen and offered to Darlene Misselbeck. Council approved this appointment.

A suggestion to post council audiotapes on the website was approved. This will begin in January 2022.

Not being able to purchase a new HVAC system has led to improving and maintaining what is operating presently. Current repairs are estimated at $3,161 which was approved by council. It was also suggested to have an emergency fund of $5,000. This was also approved.

Due to late leaves falling, it was suggested to contract EMI Leaf Collection to do another leaf removal for an additional $2,000.

The 2022 budget is ready for advertising. The budget is beginning the year with a $90,000 surplus. Grant activity was removed from the budget and made into its own fund.

There was an executive session for personnel matters.
