‘Light Up Night’ Hellertown event returns in-person

The Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce celebrated the holiday season at Morris J. Dimmick Park with Light Up Night Nov. 26.

“We are excited to help bring the HLS Light Up Night back to an in-person event this year after a successful and mindful COVID-19 adaptation in 2020,” said Mobile Technology Graphics Operations Director Zac Estojak, the presenting sponsor.

Jessica O’Donnell and Lauren Bertucci from the Affiliated Chambers emceed the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Chamber representatives and local elected officials encouraged attendees to buy local and shop small businesses from Hellertown-Lower Saucon. Hellertown Mayor David Heintzelman, assisted by former mayor Richard Fluck, manned the power switch.

The Saucon Valley HS Challenge Choir, Saucon Valley HS Band, En Avant School of Dance, and Saucon Valley Karate Academy were among the featured acts. Saucon Valley Cub Scout Pack 349 led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Besides live entertainment on the park stage, family-friendly fun included free hot chocolate, coffee, cider, apples and cookies, as well as swag from the Chamber of Commerce tents and at booths set up by area businesses and not-for-profits.

Live reindeer named Clarisse and Twinkle, an ice carving demonstration, and cash wagon rides were also a part of the evening’s popular program.

Local retailers donated 10 percent of their proceeds from food and cash bar sales to the community.

Despite the bitter cold and blustery weather, the park quickly filled up with masked and unmasked folks happy to be able to gather together again for this free annual event.

Among the nearly 40 sponsors were Dewey Fire Co. No. 1, Farmers Insurance (The Wimbish Agency), Elite Pool Service, ASR Media Productions, Heintzelman Funeral Home, Creekview Veterinary Hospital, Saucon Valley Insurance Services, McDonald’s of Hellertown, Bechdolt Orchards, Andy’s and Pennewell’s Flower Shop, Gary’s Custom Cuts, and Working Dog Press.
